Improving the quality of life in the communities where our customers and employees live and work is at the core of Comcast’s culture and our commitment.
In that spirit, we hope you’ll join thousands of volunteers to make change happen in New Mexico communities on Saturday, April 21, for the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day. Find local projects and volunteer opportunities here.
One of the projects this year will take place at Hermosa Heights Elementary School in Las Cruces. It’s the 11th year that the Las Cruces Public Schools has participated in Comcast Cares Day, and the district’s Brigitte Zigelhofer says she’s expecting up to 1,000 volunteers.
“When you look out on the sea of green Comcast Cares Day t-shirts — hundreds of volunteers from our community working side-by-side on a shared project — it’s really a beautiful thing to see,” says Zigelhofer.
The Comcast Cares Day tradition in Las Cruces includes an annual mural project. The school receiving the volunteer support identifies a wall for a mural, and then the school’s art teacher and students work to create a design. On Comcast Cares Day, the students paint the mural while the community works to beautify other parts of the school.
“The clean-up is wonderful, but the greatest benefit may be the fact that the project brings our community together, and it shows students that the community believes in their education and wants to support them,” says Zigelhofer.
Let’s build on this momentum — get involved! The more volunteers we recruit, the more children we mentor, the more schools we revitalize, the more gardens we plant, the more neighborhoods we improve – the more people around New Mexico we impact.
