Access to the internet, and the lack thereof, has disproportionately affected communities in and around Santa Fe during the pandemic. Not being able to connect has affected their ability to participate in school, with their peers and in programs that empower young students.” – Ginger Williams, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Girls Inc of Santa Fe
As part of Comcast’s ongoing commitment to help connect more New Mexicans to the internet, we recently announced more than 50 Lift Zone locations across New Mexico are now available to students and adults needing to access critical resources through the internet. This initiative provides free high-speed WiFi connectivity and access to hundreds of hours of educational and digital skills content to help New Mexicans and site coordinators navigate online learning. Additionally, through Comcast funding, many Lift Zones receive laptops and other smart devices to help better serve the community.
Our goal was to work closely with community organizations to launch Lift Zones in convenient areas, so folks can easily get to access WiFi and receive digital equity wrap-around services – and we did just that!
Lift Zones provide New Mexicans with a space to participate in distance learning and to accomplish homework. Adults are also going to these locations to work remotely, look for or apply for a job and learn digital skills.
Lift Zones in New Mexico are now available in:
- Isleta Pueblo
- Las Cruces
- Santa Fe
- Silver City
