$150M broadband infrastructure investment will connect tens of thousands of homes and businesses

Comcast announced today it will continue to expand its next-generation Xfinity network in Rio Rancho, making its full suite of services available to homes and businesses across the city. The planned expansion adds to Comcast’s ongoing $257 million investment in New Mexico over the last three years. Comcast’s expansion in Rio Rancho will ensure the community has the foundational next-generation network in place to begin deploying DOCSIS 4.0, setting the stage for the introduction of new symmetrical multi-gigabit Internet options. Today, newly connected residential consumers will have access to symmetrical Internet options ranging from 150 Mbps to 1 Gbps.

“Comcast’s investment in Rio Rancho is a testament to our city’s growth and strategic ability to attract private partners. Rio Rancho has set the stage for long-term, sustainable growth that we believe will continue to drive economic expansion,” said Mayor Greggory Hull. “We’re grateful for Comcast’s recognition of Rio Rancho’s potential and eagerly anticipate the transformative impact of improved Internet services. As we move forward, we are confident that the journey will prove to be worth the wait, presenting enriched economic opportunity for both residents and businesses.”

Comcast’s commitment to new communities goes beyond the build– addressing digital opportunities in communities through Project UP, the company’s $1 billion dollar commitment to help tens of millions of people connect to the Internet and build futures of unlimited possibilities. Comcast is bringing this commitment to life in Rio Rancho with initial investments in local nonprofit partners including R4 Creating, ReadWest, Inc, along with economic development and business growth partners including the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Sandoval Economic Alliance.

“We are committed to investing in and expanding our network to ensure more residents and businesses across New Mexico have access to the connectivity they want and need for their educational, professional and personal lives,” said Chris Dunkeson, Area Vice President for Comcast in New Mexico. “We are proud to connect people in Rio Rancho to more of what matters most to them with fast, secure and reliable Internet service built to meet their needs today and into the future.”

In the last three years, Comcast has invested more than $13.7 million in New Mexico nonprofits to help local community organizations provide hands on digital skills training, offer workforce development/readiness workshops and other tech education to students, adults and people with disabilities. The funding also supports ongoing efforts to build awareness about affordable connectivity services like Internet Essentials, which offers eligible households high-speed internet for $9.99/month or Internet Essentials Plus for $29.95/month. Affordable computers are also available through Internet Essentials.
