What is a Lift Zone?
Lift Zones are dedicated spaces within neighborhood community centers that provide free internet access for students and adults. Lift Zones are equipped with fast, reliable Wi-Fi and provide hundreds of hours of free educational and digital skills content to support online learning. Lift Zones can be found in various locations, including nonprofit community centers, gyms, and parks and recreation facilities. See a full list of locations in New Mexico at the bottom of this page.
The Impact of Lift Zones
Lift Zones are designed to support a wide range of community members:
- Students: Complete homework before or after school.
- Adults: Work remotely or apply for jobs.
- Seniors: Learn essential digital skills.
- Veterans: Advance careers and access healthcare benefits.
- Everyone: Access telehealth appointments.
“Transforming two of our YDI centers into Lift Zones has made a huge difference in the lives of the students we serve. Many of the kids who come to YDI either don’t have internet at home or they can’t study at home and need somewhere safe to go. We’re so glad to be able to work with Comcast to give our students a safe, clean, and connected space where they can stay in school even when schools are closed.”
Robert Chavez
“Access to the internet, and the lack thereof, has disproportionately affected communities in and around Santa Fe during the pandemic. Not being able to connect has affected their ability to participate in school, with their peers and in programs that empower young students.”
Ginger Williams
Comcast’s Commitment to Digital Opportunity
The award-winning Lift Zones program is a core component of Project UP – our comprehensive $1 billion initiative to advance digital opportunity and help build a future of unlimited possibilities.
As part of our ongoing commitment to closing the digital divide, Comcast has established over 50 Wi-Fi connected Lift Zones across New Mexico. By collaborating with our network of nonprofit, community, and city partners, we provide reliable Wi-Fi access for students and adults to connect online, engage in workforce development training, access essential resources, and so much more.
Staying Connected to What Matters Most
Lift Zones, which provide internet access on the go, complement our Internet Essentials program, which offers fast, affordable internet connectivity at home to income-constrained households. Together, these initiatives ensure that more New Mexicans have the tools they need to succeed in a digital world.
